SEAFORD — Delaware State Police are investigating a Sunday morning homicide in Seaford which killed a 39-year-old victim.
The Seaford Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at a residence on the 11000 block of Hastings Farm Road at approximately 2:11 a.m. Upon entry to the residence, firefighters extinguished the fire and located a victim dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Troopers then responded to the residence and secured the scene while the DSP homicide unit took over the investigation of the incident.
According to authorities, the initial investigation revealed the 39-year-old victim was inside the residence when unknown suspects forced entry through a side door and fired multiple rounds. The victim was shot once and fell to the living room floor. The suspects then set a fire in the living room before fleeing the residence on foot.
The body was turned over to the Division of Forensic Science for an autopsy. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.
There was no suspect information available on Sunday.
Hastings Farm Road was closed for approximately 7 hours while the incident was investigated.
