Speak Up: Rising gas prices hit Delawareans in their pockets

Posted

After a cyberattack that shut down the Colonial Pipeline, motorists in East Coast markets — including Delaware — are feeling pain at the pump. Gas prices in Delaware stood at an average of $2.89 per gallon Wednesday, up a penny from the previous night and 11 cents over the past week. The national gas average was $3 per gallon. U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said motorists should avoid rushing out and hoarding gasoline during a White House press conference Tuesday. “Just as there was no need to hoard toilet paper at the beginning of the pandemic, there should be no cause for hoarding gasoline, especially in light of the fact that the pipeline should be fully operational by the weekend,” Ms. Granholm said.

  • There is no reason to raise prices. This fuel was pumped prior to the hack. This is price gouging, and our government is OK with it. Notice everyone talked about Trump being in Russia’s pocket, but Biden says nothing, leaving us cowering in corners! Great look. Let’s all just raise our hands and surrender now. — Diane Butters-Eastburn
  • People take advantage of us all the time. It’s Delaware, with a major refinery that has nothing to do with that pipeline. We got five refineries right here, and people act like it’s the end of the world. — Charles Snatchko

  • Lines already for gas at Royal Farms on Del. 26, out into the road, and the gas there went up 10 cents. — Maxine Meyer

  • Joe Biden will save us. He will fly into Delaware with Air Force One and his fleet of Marine aircraft that all burn 50 to 200 gallons of fuel per hour. — Tom Small
