Speak Up: No tickets remain for Dover Cup race with limited capacity

Posted

The Drydene 400 NASCAR Cup Series race, scheduled to take the green flag Sunday at 2 p.m. at Dover International Speedway, is a sellout — with a caveat. There have been no official numbers released saying how many tickets have been sold for the event and the Delaware Division of Public Health never publicly announced how many fans could be hosted by the speedway, although there will be limited capacity for this weekend’s tripleheader of NASCAR racing. While the crowd will be markedly smaller than traditional NASCAR weekends in Dover — thanks to COVID-19-related social distancing requirements — it will still be a festive occasion, as it’s the first time in a year-and-a-half that fans will be able to return to the grandstands at the Monster Mile.

  • Seems as though the crowds coming for the race (and it’s great Dover Downs is opening back up) would have a concerning impact on gasoline supply, given the Colonial Pipeline shutdown. — Gerald Jerry Rice
  • What a science-led joke. — Bob Beckman
  • Cup race, Firefly. What’s next? Schools will open? Ha! What a joke the state of Delaware is. — John T. Reilly
  • Schools in Dover have been open. It’s parents’ choice to come face-to-face or stay virtual. Teachers are doing double-duty teaching both. — Patricia Lodholz
  • Too soon. Shut it down before we turn into India. — Charlie Harper
