UPDATED: Rehoboth experiencing wi-fi outage after truck damages fiber
By Noah ZuckerSome Comcast customers in the Rehoboth Beach area experienced a wi-fi outage Monday after a truck caused damage on Route 1, officials said.
Kristie Fox, Comcast's vice president of communications for the Beltway district, reported that wi-fi had been restored to all customers at 10:15 p.m. on Monday.
The outage occurred around noon Monday in Lewes due to an incident in front of the PetSmart near Blue Bird Lane, Ms. Fox said.
“Our team is on site working to repair the damaged fiber as quickly and safely as possible and is coordinating closely with the (Delaware) Department of Transportation to ensure safe access to Route 1 as we complete the fiber repairs,” she said. “We’re sorry for those impacted. We know any time without service can be frustrating.”
The outage impacted one local school.
“We were recently made aware of an internet and phone outage in the Dewey and Rehoboth areas, which subsequently is causing issues with the internet and phones at Rehoboth Elementary School,” said a Facebook post from the Cape Henlopen School District.
“We were told Comcast is working on the issue and we hope to have it fixed soon,” it continued.
A spokeswoman for the district said in an email the teachers prepare for both synchronous and asynchronous instruction.
"This would be one of those instances where our remote learners would spend time focusing on any asynchronous assignments," she said.
