Police continue investigation into officer-involved shooting in Seaford

SEAFORD - Delaware State Police had no public updates Monday as the investigation into last week’s trooper-involved fatal shooting of a 51-year-old Seaford woman continued.

DSP spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said no further details were available “at this time,” and indicated that “(An update) will be issued once I have additional information to provide.”

The woman was shot to death by a trooper Thursday after she armed herself with a handgun and threatened police and medical personnel during a response on Danny Drive, according to a DSP news release. Troopers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 7:13 p.m. to assist medical personnel before engaging with the woman, authorities said.

The trooper, assigned to Troop 5, shot his departmental-issued handgun and was placed on administrative leave in adherence to DSP policy afterward, police said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said last week her name was being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

No troopers or medical personnel were injured, police said.

The DSP Homicide Unit is conducting the investigation, Cpl. Pepper said.
