OCEAN VIEW — A 29-year-old Millsboro woman was arrested after checks were allegedly stolen and passed at area banks, Ocean View police spokesman Chief Kenneth McLaughlin said.

According to the chief, officers were contacted Feb. 17 by a 96-year-old woman regarding an “alarming” phone call she had received from her bank. An investigation determined that County Bank officials had contacted the woman regarding suspicious activity in her checking account, police said.

As the investigation continued, police determined that Brittany L. Robinson had been hired to clean the woman’s home, Chief McLaughlin said.

Authorities alleged that several checks were removed and two were cashed after the woman’s signature was forged.

Ms. Robinson was charged with theft under $1,500 where the victim is 62 years or older (three counts), attempt to commit theft under $1,500 where the victim is 62 years or older and second-degree forgery (two counts). She was released on a $12,000 unsecured bond pending a preliminary hearing in the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas.
