SEAFORD — Construction of the new Wawa in Seaford will enlist a workforce with military ties.

Delmarva Veteran Builders, the region’s only commercial construction firm dedicated to bringing employment to U.S. veterans, is supplying job opportunities for its newest project in western Sussex County.

“Wawa is partnering with Delmarva Veteran Builders to open our new Seaford, Delaware, store later this year,” said Terri Micklin, director of construction for Wawa.

Giving more fuel and quick-service options to those traveling north on U.S. 13, the Seaford Wawa will be joining nearby locations in Bridgeville, Millsboro and Milford in 2021. The company bought the property in 2019, but the project was put on hold during the pandemic.

Located next to Grotto Pizza, the new 5,500-square-foot building will also have a back entrance, off Tharp Road.

Construction is slated to begin soon. Wawa anticipates its grand opening will be in late fall.

“We are excited to have Wawa here in Seaford,” said the city’s mayor, David Genshaw. “People love their sandwiches and subs, along with their great service. They are a great addition, and we wish them great success.”

This marks the 11th convenience store project for DVB’s portfolio in just 3½ years.

Launched in 2013 by U.S. Navy veteran Chris Eccleston, DVB has become one of the fastest-growing companies in the nation, all while maintaining a 60% veteran and reservist workforce.
