ELLENDALE — The New Hope Recreation and Development Center has been awarded a $5,000 FACES grant from the 2021 Freeman Foundation.

A news release states, this award allows NHRDC to fund the New Hope 2021 Summer Program, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday June 28 to July 28. As a result of COVID-19, NHRDC will observe pandemic protocols during the 2021 summer program. Breakfast and lunch will be served each day.

For this year’s summer program, the focus is to present an academic program that emphasizes math, science and reading. To complement the academic school year learning, the center’s staff will administer grade level tests to assess each student’s course of study, the release states.

The Delaware Bookmobile will visit NHRDC every two weeks to share books, magazines and videos. Recreational activities will take place on site and will consist of arts and crafts, movies, Olympic-themed competitions and water games. Summer program trips will be limited.

To conclude the program, students will receive a backpack containing a range of school supplies.

For information on this or other programs at NHRDC, located at 12564 N. Old State Road, Ellendale, call 302-491-6058 or visit here.
