DOVER — An 84-year-old Milford man matched five numbers in a Quick Pick Powerball drawing on Jan. 30, winning $1 million before taxes, the Delaware Lottery announced Monday.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased two Powerball tickets for the drawing at a Food Lion in Milford.

“I’ve won a couple dollars here and there, but this is my first big win,” the man said in a news release. “I scanned my ticket three times, because I couldn’t believe it. I was absolutely shocked.”

When the man shared the news of his win with his children, “All three asked if I was kidding,” he said.

The man, who claimed his prize from lottery headquarters Thursday, said he had no current plans for his winnings. When asked why he plays the Delaware Lottery, he said, “Just for fun!”

The winning numbers from the Jan.30 drawing were 01, 02, 07, 52 and 61. The Powerball number was 04, and the Power Play number was three times.
