Local roundup: Stahl sweeps Legion twinbill from Fox Post 2

Regular-season champion Stahl Post 30 edged Fox Post-2, 7-6, in the first game before sweeping a doubleheader in American Legion baseball on Saturday afternoon.

Stahl Post 30 won the nightcap, 12-3, in the twinbill played at Dover High.

Stahl Post 30 finishes the regular season at 14-3 while Fox Post 2 ends up 8-7. This year’s upcoming six-team Legion state tournament will be held at St. Mark’s High beginning on July 24.

Major League

District I Tournament

Camden-Wyoming 6, M.O.T. 3: Camden-Wyoming advanced to the winners’ bracket finals with the victory on Saturday evening.

Pitcher Jay Sanchez earned the win with Jacob Maddox registering a save. Camden-Wyoming, which was playing its tourney opener, was led by Quin Collins (3-for-3, 2 hits, 2 runs), Brody Hinkle (2 hits, double, 1 RBI), Kingston Noel (2 hits) and Dane Hizer (pinch hit, 1 run).

For M.O.T. (1-1), Connor Fitzgerald and Chase Givens both had a hit and an RBI. M.O.T. has won the District I title nine years in a row.

Milford 9, Dover 0: Mason Mills pitched a two-hitter and struck out seven in five innings for Milford on Friday night.

Ethan Garcia, Mills and Amari Felix-Abad all had two hits for Milford.

Richard Lorntzen had a pair of hits and played good defense for Dover while Jarrell Ali and Wesley Stoops both pitched.

Junior League

District I Tournament

M.O.T. 16, Smyrna-Clayton 6: Jimmy Apicella and Grady Anderson had two hits each Friday night as M.O.T. advanced to the championship game.

Timothy Whichard had a double and three RBI while Garrett Overby, Connor Robovitsky, and Apicella had two RBI each for M.O.T.

Smyrna-Clayton’s Phoenix Henriquez and Mason Jewell each reached base four times, while Elikem Gawuah had a strong effort as a relief pitcher.

8-10 District I Tournament

Smyrna-Clayton 11, Felton 10: Smyrna-Clayton rallied from a five-run deficit to pull out the win on Friday night.

Evan Donahue singled home Landon Letsch with the winning run in the bottom of the sixth to give Smyrna-Clayton the walk-off win. Letsch was also the winning pitcher, striking out eight in four innings while going 2-for-4 and scoring twice.

Tanner Harris (double) and Jamison Fuchs both had a hit and scored a run for Smyrna-Clayton.

Senior League

State Tournament

Brandywine 12, Georgetown 5: Brandywine captured the Senior League state title with the win on Friday night at Newark National.

The District II champions went 2-0 in the three-team tournament, which also included Camden-Wyoming.

No regionals are being played in Little League’s age division for 14-16 year-olds this summer.

Local football

Thunder Wolves looking for players: The Dover Thunder Wolves adult football team will begin the season on Sept. 11 as members of the ACFC.

The Thunder Wolves, who will play an eight-game schedule, are holding practices are now on Thursdays (6 p.m.) and Saturday mornings (10 a.m.) The squad is looking for more players.
