Local Roundup: Seaford girls defeat Delmar in DIAA basketball tournament

Jada Evans netted 23 points and 12 rebounds to pace No. 24 Seaford High to a 53-18 victory over No. 41 Delmar in the opening round of the DIAA girls’ basketball state tournament on Monday night.

The Blue Jays (7-6) advance to play at ninth-seeded Appoquinimink in Wednesday’s second round at 6:30 p.m.

Bre’Asia Buffalo added 13 points, five assists, and four steals for Seaford, which built a 22-4 halftime advantage.

Red Lion Christian 42, Sussex Central 21: The Lions tallied the game’s first 11 points and led 25-7 at halftime before picking up the first-round victory.

Wilmington Christian 57, Sussex Tech 47: The Ravens trailed by 11 going into the fourth quarter before falling in the first round.

Shaniya Godwin scored 18 points with Daniya Dashiell adding for Sussex Tech.

College basketball

Hens’ Dickey earns fourth CAA award: For the fourth time this season, Delaware junior guard Jasmine Dickey earned Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors on Monday.

Dickey had a big weekend as the Blue Hens swept a home series against Towson, clinching the CAA regular-season championship. Dickey averaged 29.5 points, 14.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 0.5 blocks across the two games.

College golf

Hen win 11th in tourney: Delaware freshman Christina Carroll is tied for 10th place among individuals while the Blue Hens women’s golf team is tied for 11th following Monday’s round at the Kiawah Island Classic.

The Blue Hens, who fired a 300 score on Sunday, carded a 306 on Monday and are tied for 11th place out of 41 squads with a 606 total. Dallas Baptist holds a commanding lead with a 569 score, while Northern Illinois is second at 587.

Carroll shot a three over par 75 on the par 72, 5,958-yard Oak Point course, and is tied for 10th place at the tournament with a one over par 70-75-145.
