The Delaware women’s basketball team clinched its first Colonial Athletic Association regular-season championship in eight years with an emphatic 80-54 win over Towson on Saturday afternoon at the Carpenter Center.

With one game left in the regular season, the Blue Hens (15-2 CAA, 18-3 overall) also secured the No. 1 seed for the CAA Tournament. The Tigers fell to 7-4 CAA, 12-6 overall.

Junior guard Jasmine Dickey added to her resume as a candidate for CAA Player of the Year with a game-high 29 points, a career-high-tying 18 rebounds, and four assists. On the defensive end, she recorded a block and a steal, and helped limit Kionna Jeter (the CAA’s leading scorer at 23.4 points per game) to just 17 points on 7-of-22 shooting from the field.

It was the sixth double-double and 15th 20-point game of the season for Dickey, who has scored in double figures in 23 straight games dating back to last season.

Senior forward Lizzie Oleary tied career highs with 14 points and three blocks. Junior forward Ty Battle recorded her CAA-leading 15th double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and corralling 15 rebounds in addition to three blocks.

Freshman guard Tyi Skinner rounded out the Blue Hens in double figures with 13 points, knocking down three of her six shots from behind the arc.

Delaware held a considerable 63-38 advantage in rebounding, including 28 offensive boards compared to 21 defensive boards from Towson. The 63 rebounds are tied for the second-most in a single game in program history, behind only the 71 rebounds in the season opener against Salem.

Holding a 42-35 lead midway through the third quarter, the Hens went on a 9-0 run. Delaware then opened the fourth quarter on a 13-0 run.

After leading 33-28 at halftime, Delaware outscored Towson 47-26 in the second half.

Howard 72, Delaware State 64: The Hornets netted the game’s first 10 points but couldn’t make the lead stand up in the MEAC loss.

DSU (2-8 MEAC, 3-11 overall) shot 21-of-66 from the field, including just 5-of-21 on three pointers. They made only 17-of-26 free throws.

Ashley Primas scored a season-high 12 points, including 10 in the third quarter. Kiana Coomber also had 12 points, to go with nine rebounds and six assists, while Shannon Dozier scored 11.

The Hornets will host Howard again today at 1 p.m. on senior night. DSU will have 10 players playing in their final home game.

Women’s lacrosse

La Salle 7, Delaware 4: The Blue Hens (1-2) were out-scored 4-1 in the second half of the non-conference loss.
