In second year, Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition fundraiser set for Stockley Tavern

Bartending contest joins cornhole, pig roast, silent auction

GEORGETOWN — For a second year, a spirited effort to support the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is brewing at Stockley Tavern.

Oct. 16 is the date for the 2021 edition of “Bags, Booze & Boobs,” an event featuring local celebrity bartenders in what organizers anticipate will be another mega-fundraiser supporting DBCC.

“We did it during COVID last year and raised about $20,000. We just kind of threw it together,” said the tavern’s owner, Ken Adams.

The event will begin at noon and will feature a silent auction, a pig roast, a cornhole tournament, a 50/50 raffle and DJ entertainment.

And, of course, the bartending competition, with tandems making drinks for gratuities.

“The deal is to see which team can raise the most tips as donations to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition,” Mr. Adams said. “What the tavern does is we donate a percentage of the proceeds from all the food and beverage sales. And we also match whatever the winning bartending team collects.”

Bartenders for Bags, Booze and Boobs are:

  • Noon — State Rep. Steve Smyk and Karen Sposato.
  • 1 p.m. — Zack Avery and Ryan Herka.
  • 2 p.m. — Trey Mears and Lance Mears.
  • 3 p.m. — Chess Hedrick and Josh Wharton.
  • 4 p.m. — Randy Wothers and Jack Mullins Sr.
  • 5 p.m. — State Rep. Shannon Morris and Rob Meding.

Last year’s bartender competition — highlighted by one team’s grand entrance via helicopter — featured a tight duel for top honors. In the end, Rep. Morris and Mr. Meding conceded to Mr. Hedrick and Mr. Wharton.

“The bartending competition is fiercely competitive,” Mr. Adams said.

The cornhole tournament will begin at 1, with half of the entry fees being given to DBCC. All proceeds from the pig roast will be donated, also.

The Stockley Tavern is along U.S. 113 south, just south of Georgetown.
