BRIDGEVILLE — A 43-year-old Greenwood man was arrested on a felony assault charge after allegedly striking a female acquaintance in the upper body multiple times with a firearm, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Cpl. Amina Ali said.

According to authorities, Dennis B. Buckley was involved in a domestic incident with the 42-year-old female at approximately 5:52 a.m. Tuesday in the 16000 block of Adams Road. Police said the female was treated at a local urgent care center for serious physical injuries.

The investigation identified Mr. Buckley as the alleged assailant, and warrants were drafted for his arrest. He was taken into custody without incident during a traffic stop in the area of Oak and Haven roads at approximately 2:14 p.m. Tuesday, Cpl. Ali said.

Mr. Buckley was charged with second-degree assault, DUI, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, criminal contempt of a domestic violence protective order, theft under $1,500 and failure to have insurance identification in possession.

He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2, Rehoboth Beach, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $102,000 cash bond, police said.
