MILLSBORO — A 71-year-old Millsboro man was arrested on an assault charge following an altercation with a neighbor Monday, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.

According to authorities, troopers were called to White Pine Drive at 11:48 a.m. for a reported assault.

An investigation determined that a 77-year-old man was outside his residence feeding geese, when his neighbor, Charles L. Harrigan, began yelling at him, police said. Mr. Harrigan then approached the man and began physically assaulting him, so a fight ensued, Cpl. Pepper said.

Police said Mr. Harrigan then picked up his weed eater and started to hit the man with it. The man sustained minor injuries from the altercation but refused medical attention.

Mr. Harrigan was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 7. He was charged with second-degree assault with physical injury to a person over 62 years old.

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2, Rehoboth Beach, and released on his own recognizance.
