Delaware veterans subject of presentation to Leadership Delaware

WILMINGTON — The service, leadership, and challenges of Delaware’s veterans of all generations was the subject of a presentation on March 3 to Leadership Delaware’s Class of 2023.

Dave Skocik, president of the Delaware Veterans Coalition, addressed 29 young working professionals in the year-long program that meets two days a month to hear from a total of 140 government, business, and others leaders from across the state.

“My presentation was about the benefits 74,000 veterans and their families bring to Delaware, including leadership, community involvement, skills, and funding from the federal government for health care facilities, education, retirement benefits, and in some cases disability payments that are spent in Delaware. Research indicates veterans bring $4.2 billion to Delaware each year,” said Mr. Skocik.

The Delaware Veterans Coalition, founded in 2011, is pro-bono lobbying organization that invites feedback from veteran leaders across the state on their priorities for elected officials.

The Coalition founded the Delaware Veterans Trust Fund, administered by the State Commission of Veterans Affairs. It also teams with the VA, the Veterans Court, and the Dept. of Correction to reach out to incarcerated veterans.
