WESTOVER — Somerset County Technical High School students in the Criminal Justice program were promoted in rank during a pinning ceremony held at the school.

Parents, school board members Margo Green Gale and Vice Chair Troy Brittingham Jr. along with local law enforcement leadership from the Maryland State Police Barrack X, Somerset Sheriff’s Office, National Resources Police, and Crisfield and Pocomoke City police departments attended the celebration.

The Criminal Justice class is led by instructor Major Wade Chambers. It is designed to present an in-depth study of the purposes, principles, practices, and ethics of the profession. The two-year course deals with the study of all forms of law enforcement; military, corrections, private security; and courts. Students earning at least a “B” average in the course can leave high school and enter the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy with a full semester of college credits articulated by Wor-Wic Community College.

Second year students promoted to the rank of Lieutenant at the ceremony included, from Crisfield High School, Kolby Harris and Tatiana Rubio-Villafuerte, and from Washington High School, Katelyn Holland.

Second year students promoted to the rank of Sergeant included Nathan Bisset and Iyana Lofland from CHS and Ziera Savage and RyNaijah Waters from WHS.

First year students promoted at the Oct. 6 pinning ceremony were Mar’Kiera Green (Sergeant) and Chloe Pruitt (Corporal) from CHS and Shamoya Murphy (Master Sergeant) and Aniyah Jones (Corporal) from WHS.

Major Chambers shared, “It is always a proud moment for me as an educator to celebrate and promote our students seeking careers in the Criminal Justice field. The young men and women attending my classes today will leave with a solid foundation to become leaders in the field in the future.”
