Camden man arrested for catalytic converter thefts

CAMDEN — Jarrad Whitaker, 33, of Camden, was arrested Wednesday in connection with multiple thefts of catalytic converters in Kent and Sussex counties, Delaware State Police said.

Since Sept. 20, 2021, DSP has been investigating a rash of catalytic converter thefts, spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said. Troopers worked with multiple other agencies and developed Mr. Whitaker as a suspect.

On Tuesday, police executed a search warrant at Mr. Whitaker’s residence on Thomas Harmon Drive, as well as on his vehicle. Multiple items were recovered as evidence, Cpl. Pepper said.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident and charged with criminal mischief (four counts), second-degree criminal trespass, theft under $1,500 (two counts), third-degree criminal trespass (three counts) and criminal mischief between $1,000 and $5,000 in damage (two counts). He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court and released after posting a $4,700 secured bond.

DSP detectives continue to work with other police agencies on this investigation.
