MILLSBORO — A 21-year-old Ellendale man was charged with assault in connection with meeting with an acquaintance in a parking lot Monday night, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.
Mardis L. Powell Jr. allegedly sprayed a 17-year-old female in the face with pepper spray after asking her to meet him in the parking lot of Carillon Woods Apartment. The sequence began as a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation. Troopers were called to the scene at approximately 10:40 p.m., and Cpl. Pepper said Mr. Powell left the area before their arrival.
The female did not require medical attention, police said.
Mr. Powell was located on Tuesday, police said, and charged with second-degree assault and criminal mischief. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $10,100 cash bond.
