Arrest made after stolen car wrecks in Seaford

SEAFORD — A 29-year-old Seaford man was arrested on criminal and traffic charges Sunday after stealing a car and wrecking it while driving under the influence, Delaware State Police said.

According to authorities, at approximately 11:33 a.m., troopers responded to the area of Whitesville Road, west of Whaley’s Road, for a single-vehicle collision involving a stolen 2011 Chevrolet Suburban. The investigation determined that at approximately 9:30 a.m., Taylor W. English entered Quality Automotive at 26223 Sussex Highway and removed the keys to the Suburban from inside the building.

Police said Mr. English then found the vehicle parked outside and fled the parking lot. Employees of the business were familiar with Mr. English and contacted the owner to report the incident.

As troopers were responding to the collision on Whitesville Road, the owner of Quality Automotive reported the vehicle stolen to the police. As troopers were responding to the scene, they located Mr. English walking in the area of 36672 Whaley’s Road.

Police said that when taken into custody, Mr. English displayed signs of being under the influence of alcohol. A DUI investigation ensued, and Mr. English was transported to DSP Troop 5 .

Mr. English was charged with fourth-offense DUI of alcohol, motor vehicle theft, leaving the scene of a collision resulting in injury, driving while suspended, failure to have insurance ID in possession, second-degree criminal trespass, operation of an unregistered motor vehicle, motor vehicle used on roadway without displaying registration plates, driver must wear seat belt, failure to report a collision involving alcohol.

He was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court No. 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $6,440 cash bond.
