13 Milford students injured in bus crash

MILFORD — Thirteen elementary school students were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, following a Thursday collision involving a school bus and two other vehicles, Milford police said.

According to spokesman Sgt. Robert Masten, a bus was transporting Milford School District students west on Del. 36, at the intersection with South Rehoboth Boulevard. An eastbound vehicle, driven by a 32-year-old Lincoln woman, made a left turn in front of it, causing the collision. The vehicle then struck another driven by a 32-year-old Lincoln woman that was at the intersection, police said.

The students and an occupant of the third vehicle involved were transported to three hospitals (Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus and Bayhealth Hospital, Sussex Campus and Beebe Healthcare) for treatment, police said.

The incident occurred at 7:30 a.m., and the bus had to be towed, Sgt. Masten said. The bus contractor provided another vehicle to take the remaining students to school.

The driver of the first vehicle was issued a summons for inattentive driving.

The Carlisle Fire Co. of Milford responded to the scene, along with multiple other fire departments, Sgt. Masten said.
