WILMINGTON — Veterans in Delaware struggling with food insecurity are invited to a mobile food pantry from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28 at the Wilmington VA Medical Center, 1601 Kirkwood Highway. 

The drive-thru event is hosted by Wilmington VA Medical Center and the Food Bank of Delaware. The food drive is free and open to Delaware Veterans thanks to a donation from GOLO.

“We started a local food bank here at the hospital just for Veterans about one year ago because of the demand,” said Jerimy Parsons, chief of nutrition and food at Wilmington VA. “Since then, we’ve provided more than 120 Veterans with warm meals and received over $7,700 worth of donated foods. We’re really excited to expand our efforts on a larger scale with Food Bank of Delaware.”

Veterans are encouraged to register for the event as early as possible.

Attendees should enter the main entrance located at 1601 Kirkwood Highway and follow directional signage posted. Staff members will greet them and place food items in their cars. Once the food is inside the car, Veterans may depart back onto Kirkwood Highway. Wilmington VA enrollment and social work teams will be present to provide additional resources to those in need.

Wilmington VA Medical Center provides health care services to more than 40,000 Veterans throughout Delaware and southern New Jersey at its medical center and five outpatient clinics.
