Webster: Electric vehicle chargers best at shopping centers, not gas stations

Posted

I read that the U.S. government awarded $521 million in grants to build charging stations for electric vehicles.

Just so you know, I don’t have an electric car. I’ve seen these chargers at Wawa stores in the Dover area, and sometimes, they are actually being used. Wawas are a good place to get gas but not so good for EV charging because charging just takes too long.

Charging stations should be in parking lots for shopping centers, malls, restaurants, even libraries. Give the owners of electric cars something to do, while they wait for their cars to recharge. This would promote the businesses that had chargers in their lots.

If I had an electric vehicle, I would rather charge it while grocery shopping, going to a movie, eating at a restaurant or shopping at the mall, not while sitting at a Wawa.
