LAUREL — A wanted 49-year-old Laurel man was arrested on criminal charges after a vehicle pursuit and eventual apprehension, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.
According to authorities, troopers were searching for Robert L. Jefferson when he was spotted driving a vehicle in the area of East Trap Pond Road on Thursday. He was wanted on active warrants in a burglary case on April 26.
After the pursuit ended, police said Mr. Jefferson fled into a wooded area near Shiloh Church Road. He exited the woods at approximately 4 a.m. Friday and was taken into custody, police said.
Mr. Jefferson was charged with disregarding a police officer signal, resisting arrest, reckless driving, driving vehicle at unreasonable speed, failure to stop at stop sign, third-degree burglary, theft of a firearm (three counts), theft over $1,500, theft under $1,500 and criminal mischief. He was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $15,500 secured bond.
