‘Virtual Dover Days’ set for May 1

Posted

DOVER — On May 1, the Friends of Old Dover, in cooperation with the Dover Days Committee, will hold “Virtual Dover Days.”

This online event, with assistance from the Audio Radio Video Engineering Design Technology Education students from Caesar Rodney High School, is a series of short video lectures sharing the history of Dover’s past. It will include topics such as pre-Colonial Dover, Victorian homes, the history of tulips, the significance of several historic churches and Prohibition in the 1920s.

These 10- to 20-minute videos will be available beginning at 9 a.m. May 1 on YouTube.

Old Dover Days began in 1933 as “A Day with the Storied Houses & Gardens of Old Dover,” under the auspices of the Dover Garden Club (now known as the Friends of Old Dover).

The Friends is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is “preserving Dover, Delaware’s historic and architectural heritage for future generations.”

Additional details of the Dover Days lectures and links will also be found on the Friends of Old Dover Facebook page and here.

Dover Days, traditionally held in the city’s downtown historic district in May, was canceled for the second year in a row due to the pandemic. It is one of Delaware’s largest and longest-running free events.
