Vikings hammer the Clippers, 32-14

CAMBRIDGE — They saved their scoring for the second half, but when they started, the Cambridge-South Dorchester High School Vikings overwhelmed the visiting James M. Bennett Clippers, 32-14. The win brings C-SD’s record to 2-1, with Bennett falling to 0-3.

The first quarter ended with a 0-0 tie, and in the second, tough going on both sides of the line of scrimmage and ineffective play in the red zone resulted in no touchdowns. But kicker James Frazier did what he does, putting C-SD on the scoreboard with a field goal from the 23-yard line with 1:37 left in the half for a 3-0 Vikings lead.

At the 8:31 mark of the third quarter, Dario Belizaire scored for C-SD, extending the home team’s advantage to 10-0. Bennett responded with a threatening drive that ended with a fumble recovered by C-SD’s Jamal Chester. Then on the first play of the fourth quarter, Belizaire made a catch and run of 56 yards for another TD, and added a 2-point conversion on a fake extra point kick, for a tally of 18-0.
Jaden Jones recovered an on-side kick and a few plays later, it was KJ Dockins’ turn to cross the goal line for the Vikings. An extra point by Frazier — who hasn’t missed yet this season — and it was 25-0.

Then the momentum shifted, just about all of it in the direction of Clipper QB Sam Blackmon, who put his team on the scoreboard with a quarterback keeper halfway through the final period. The Clippers’ own kicker recovered an on-side kick, but their drive ended with a Jaden Jones interception return to the JMB 24-yard line.
The next play saw Viking Tayon Fletcher taking the ball into the end zone, and it was 32-6.

But Blackmon wasn’t finished — another keeper, another TD, with 4:40 left in the game and the final score of 34-14 after a good 2-point conversion.
The Clippers (3A) came into the game 0-2, after losing to Parkside the previous week, 29-14, and to Stephen Decatur, 65-0 in the season opener.

The Vikings (1A) were 1-1, losing at Milford High School on Sept. 3, 34-14. In their home opener on Sept. 10, C-SD beat Snow Hill, 48-14.
Next Friday, the Vikings will be at Kent Island (2A). Game time is 6:30 p.m.
