Veteran ‘The Walking Man’ Garcia to visit Kent County Veterans Memorial Park

DOVER — Kent County’s Veterans Memorial Park will be a stop on the Honor Walk 2023 of former Marine Danny Garcia and his wife Jackie, a retired Air Force Lt. Col., at noon on Friday, March 31.

His visit to Dover is at the invitation of Paul Davis, president of the Delaware State Council, Vietnam Veterans of America, and vice-president of Kent County Chapter 850.

Mr. Garcia and his wife coauthored the 2022 book “Marines Don't Cry.” They will visit the memorial park on their way to Raleigh and Fayette, North Carolina April 1-2, on their way back to their home in Florida.

Their presentation will be in support of Delaware's first responders, including military, police, firefighters, medical specialists and their families.

This event is free and open to the public.

Mr. Garcia, known as "The Walking Man," was born and raised in New York’s Spanish Harlem where he survived by learning to fight for respect

At 16, he was approached by a U.S. Marine recruiter who offered him a path to a different way of life. His training and service as a Marine during Vietnam, and later as a corporate trainer, law enforcement officer, and ordained minister, changed his life and that of many others. Since 1996, he has prayed and walked over 52,000,000 steps on six continents for children and world peace. In his travels he encountered figures like Pope John II, U.S. presidents, kings and queens, heads of states, and well-known personalities

“Marines Don’t Cry” relates stories of death, deep sorrow to joy, darkness, to life and freedom in Christ. It depicts dramatic highs and emotionally painful lows. It conveys his conversion from drugs and the fast lane to a man consumed with knowing and serving God at all costs.

“Marines Don’t Cry is about the love of God, the transformational power of that love, and how he has made it his life’s work to love his neighbor, to love himself, and to spread hope.

Kent County Veterans Memorial Park is at S. Little Creek Road.
