Variety of workshops coming to Dorchester Center for the Arts

Needle Felting with Laura Rankin. Learn basic techniques for needle felting a winter gnome, a tiny snowy owl and festive acorn ornaments. All materials will be provided. Students will leave with their completed creations plus their own felting needle and foam pad, as well as a handout about techniques and resources. The class will be Thursday, Dec. 2, from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $50 for members, $85 for non-members. There will also be a materials cost of $15, payable to the instructor on the class date.

Up-cycle Ornament Craft with Worldwide Hope. Open to ages 6 to 17. Youth will turn trash into treasure during this up-cycling workshop with World Wide Hope founder Griselda Jiménez. This class will be taught in both English and Spanish. The one-day workshop will be Saturday, Dec. 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $15 for DCA members, $20 for non-members.

Fun & Funky Furniture with Terri Griffin. This two-day workshop will teach the art of up-cycling furniture. Students will learn how to decoupage and embellish with a variety of items, then seal the piece with polyurethane to last a lifetime. Students should bring a small piece of furniture; all other supplies will be provided. Participants will take home their completed piece of furniture as well as an instructional printout of the process for future reference. Suggested furniture pieces: end table, small cabinet or a small chair. The workshop will be Dec. 10 and 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $125 for DCA members, $160 for non-members.
