The Wilmington Veterans Affairs Medical Center will hold two COVID-19 vaccination events for veterans, their spouses and their caregivers this weekend at its community-based outpatient clinics in Dover and Georgetown.
The event in Dover is scheduled for Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Kent County VA Clinic, 655 S. Bay Road, Unit 3C. Vaccines will be given in Georgetown on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sussex County VA Clinic, 21748 Roth Ave.
All veterans, their spouses and their caregivers are encouraged to register in person at either the Kent County or Sussex County VA clinic this week between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for the weekend vaccines. Registering in advance will help save time on the day of the event.
There will be some walk-in availability the day of. With limited vaccine availability, WVAMC said in a statement that it “will do its best to vaccinate those who attend but will work to register and schedule those who are unable for a future appointment.”
Statewide, there have been 520,342 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered as of Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. Of that total, 467,306 doses have gone to Delawareans, 50,361 were to non-Delaware residents and an additional 2,675 were for persons whose residency was not reported. Non-Delaware residents can only be vaccinated in Delaware if they work in Delaware or access their health care here.
The Delaware Division of Public Health reported 235 new positive cases of COVID-19 in Wednesday’s update, bringing the state’s total to 97,042. The seven-day rolling average of new positives is at 319.1 new cases per day, reflecting data as of Tuesday at 6 p.m.
COVID-19 hospitalizations increased by two compared to the day prior, up to 142. Of those currently hospitalized, 20 are considered critical, which is an increase of three compared to the previous day’s data.
No new COVID-19-related deaths were reported by the DPH on Wednesday, keeping the COVID-19-related death toll at 1,567.
An additional 512 individuals tested negative for the virus, raising that total number to 572,415.
