SEAFORD — Two siblings died when a vehicle driven by their mother was hit head-on by an oncoming car Thursday, authorities said.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:33 p.m. on Atlanta Road, Delaware State Police said, when the family’s northbound 2018 Kia Soul was struck by a southbound 2009 Nissan Altima that crossed double solid-yellow lines for unknown reasons.

The 36-year-old Kia driver’s 14-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Their mother was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where she was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries. All were properly restrained.

The Nissan's driver, a 53-year-old Seaford man, was properly restrained and airlifted to an area hospital, authorities said, where he was admitted in serious condition.

Atlanta Road in the area of the collision was closed for approximately 5.5 hours, as troopers conducted their investigation.

The Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit asks anyone who witnessed this collision to contact Cpl./2 Ryan Albert at 302-703-3266. Information may also be provided to Delaware Crime Stoppers via 800-TIP-3333 or here.
