DOVER — A recent string of shootings in the city continued Monday, when a 25-year-old man was seriously injured in the area of Garfield and Frear drives, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said.
Officers arrived to find the man lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. The incident occurred at approximately 10:18 p.m., police said.
Officers provided aid until medical personnel arrived, Sgt. Hoffman said. The man was transported to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus, where he underwent surgery.
Earlier Monday night, police said, the front of a residence in the 400 block of New Castle Avenue was struck by a single gunshot round. No injuries were reported in that incident, which occurred at 8:09.
On Sunday, police investigated the second shooting in four days at a residence in the 700 block of Slaughter Street in the Simon Circle community. An unoccupied vehicle in front of the residence was struck twice Thursday, while a window of the home was struck by gunfire Sunday, police said. No injuries were reported.
Also Sunday, a 23-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the back. Officers located the man after being called to the Capital Inn at 1426 N. Dupont Highway at approximately 2:38 a.m. The injuries were non-life-threatening, police said.
Investigations are ongoing, and police asked anyone with information to call 736-7130. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips may also be submitted to law enforcement through Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333 or here; a cash reward is possible for information leading to an arrest.
