MILLSBORO - Millsboro residents Evan Briscoe, 22, and Joshua Baull, 25, were arrested on weapons charges following a vehicle collision on John J. Williams Highway (Del. 24) Monday night, police said.

Delaware State Police said Mr. Briscoe was driving a vehicle at approximately 8:59 p.m. when he unsuccessfully tried to avoid striking the rear of another vehicle while traveling a high speed. Mr. Briscoe’s vehicle then struck a guardrail.

The vehicles then collided a second time, spokesperson Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell said.

When troopers arrived at the collision scene, police said, they located Mr. Briscoe and passenger Mr. Baull, who both displayed obvious signs of impairment, authorities said. Troopers discovered a handgun with an obliterated serial number inside of the vehicle.

Troopers were able to determine the serial number, and a computer inquiry on the firearm revealed it was reported stolen by the Georgetown Police Department in February.

Additionally, police said. Mr. Baull was located with a gunshot wound to the lower extremity. He and Mr. Briscoe were transported to an area hospital for medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle initially struck and a passenger were transported to an area hospital for minor injuries sustained from the collision, police said.

Once released from the hospital, were transported to Troop 7.

Mr. Briscoe was charged with possession of a firearm by person prohibited, possession of a weapon with an obliterated serial number, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, receiving a stolen firearm, second-degree vehicular assault, possession of a firearm while under the influence, driving under the influence of alcohol, and numberous traffic violations. He was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $56,750 cash bond.
