DOVER — A loaded handgun was located during a Wednesday traffic stop that brought the arrest of a 35-year-old Dover man, authorities said.

Michael Bauer was stopped after a traffic violation in the area of East Loockerman Street and Loockerman Court at approximately 8:17 a.m., Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said. When an officer approached the vehicle, according to police, a clear bag containing what appeared to be marijuana was viewed in the rear seat.

Mr. Bauer was taken into custody without incident, and officers conducted a search of the vehicle. During that search, a loaded handgun was located, as well as 18.8 grams of marijuana, 250 rounds of shotgun ammunition and gang-related apparel, Sgt. Hoffman said.

The suspect was charged with possession of a firearm/ammunition by a person prohibited (three counts), carrying a concealed deadly weapon, illegal gang participation, possession of marijuana and a stop sign violation.

He was released on a $9,000 unsecured bond.
