CHESWOLD — A 31-year-old Cheswold man was charged with five counts of felony identity theft and other offenses following an investigation into alleged thefts from unlocked vehicles occurring since November, Cheswold police spokesman Chief Christopher Workman said.
Police said Brian Denegal was taken into custody without incident when a warrant was served at a residence on Jessica Lynn Drive.
Authorities had investigated alleged incidents in the Parkers Run development and Strimel Mobile Home Park. Police said stolen credit cards were used to make purchases in Kent County.
Mr. Denegal was also charged with nine counts of unlawful use of a payment card under $1,500, seven counts of theft under $1,500, five counts of criminal trespass and two counts of attempted unlawful use of a payment card under $1,500.
Additionally, Mr. Denegal was arraigned on three violation-of-probation matters out of Sussex County Superior Court. He was held at Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a total of $24,500 in secured bail.
