CAMBRIDGE – A 16-year-old suspect is being held after shootings which wounded another teen and a 7-year-old child.

On March 20 at approximately 4:52 p.m., Cambridge Police responded to the 500 block of Clinton Street in reference to a child (7 years of age) who had been shot. The child sustained a single gunshot wound to the head, a statement from the CPD said.

Officers arrived on scene and immediately transported the child to the hospital. The child was later flown to John Hopkins Hospital where surgery was performed. The young victim was at the hospital in critical condition on Monday.

Officers on scene learned that there was a second victim (16 years of age) who was assaulted.

Through further investigation, detectives learned that a subject identified as a 16-year-old resident of Cambridge approached another 16-year-old male on the street with a handgun. During the altercation, the handgun discharged, striking the child who was standing nearby in the head.

The suspect fled the area; however, officers were able to locate him and he was placed under arrest.

Marquise O. Williams was charged with two counts of first- and second-degree assault and two counts of reckless endangerment, along with several handgun charges. He is currently being held in the Dorchester County Detention Center on no bond.
