Sussex Master Gardeners announce winter workshops

GEORGETOWN — The Sussex County Master Gardeners announce their workshop schedule for the Winter of 2025.

The classes will be held via Zoom and in-person. All classes are free unless noted. Pre-registration is required at udel.edu/0012759.

An email to participants will be sent out with a Zoom link/phone number and handouts 24 hours prior to the scheduled workshop. In person workshops will be held at the Carvel Center, 16483 County Seat Highway, Georgetown.

Winter workshops:

  • Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. Growing NativePlants from Seed (in-person only). Join Master Gardener Judy Pfister to learn how to grow native plants from seed - a great way to populate a garden with native plants without breaking the garden budget. Discussions include native plant pre-germination requirements as well as tips and techniques for both indoor and outdoor seed starting. Attendees will start some seeds in a quart container and take it home.
  • Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m. The Master Gardeners Program (Zoom only). Master Gardener Bev Boies will present a talk on the Master Gardener program. She will discuss who the Master Gardeners are, the Master Gardener Training Program, volunteer opportunities and the application process.
  • Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. Growing Citrus Indoors (in-person only). Master Gardener Lesley Holland will share tips and strategies for growing citrus indoors successfully. Attendees will be making homemade lemon meringue pie from own lemons in no time.
  • March 18 at 1 p.m. Garden Smart/Garden Easy (in-person only). Master Gardener Maureen Ryan will explain what tools and techniques are available for the gardener as they age or develop mobility issues. Make gardening enjoyable again.
  • April 15 at 1 p.m. Container Gardening (in-person and Zoom). Master Gardeners Ana Dittel and Linda Peters will talk about all aspects of Container Gardening, including types of containers, what to plant, soil, watering and maintenance.
