‘Stuff the Bus’ food drive a success in Delaware

Posted

The Delaware Transit Corp. announced Thursday that its DART “Stuff the Bus” food drive this month collected 4.3 tons of donations.

The event was held April 4-7 at Safeway stores in Rehoboth Beach and Dover and at ShopRite stores in Wilmington.

Included in the total were donations from Stuff the Bus partners Chesapeake Utilities and Sharp Energy — $5,000 worth, weighing in at 3,799 pounds.

The Food Bank of Delaware will distribute the food to Delaware residents in need.

“The Food Bank of Delaware has met record levels of need over the past several years, and the (Delaware Department of Transportation) family is proud to support their mission through their drive-thru mobile pantries and the expanded Stuff the Bus food drives,” said Secretary of Transportation Nicole Majeski. “We are so grateful for the donations received across the state.”

The spring drive yielded donations from the public, businesses and organizations throughout the state, including employees from DART, DelDOT and the Division of Motor Vehicles, which filled two 28-foot buses.

For information on donating food, contact the Food Bank at 302-292-1305 or visit here.
