NEWARK—Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Old Baltimore Pike on Saturday night.

According to Delaware State Police, a 2019 Honda Ruckus moped, driven by a 40-year-old man from Newark, approached the intersection at Aspen Drive from Old Baltimore Pike at 9:55 p.m. A 2009 Honda Accord, driven by a 37-year-old man of Newark, then approached the same intersection and entered the left turn lane before attempting to turn onto Aspen Drive.

While attempting to turn left, the Honda Accord crossed into the path of the Honda Ruckus, colliding with the moped, causing it to slide across the roadway according to authorities. After the collision, the Honda Accord continued a short distance before coming to a complete stop on Aspen Drive.

The driver of the Honda Ruckus was wearing a helmet and was transported to an area hospital for treatment where he eventually succumbed to his injuries according to DSP Public Information Officer Sgt. India Sturgis.

The driver of the Honda Accord was identified as Charles Entzminger, who Delaware State Police said was uninjured, though a preliminary state police investigation suggests alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Mr. Entzminger was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court # 11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on charges of second-degree vehicular homicide, driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, failure to yield right of way, and failure to have required insurance.

As a result of the investigation, Old Baltimore Pike between Walther Road and Salem Church Road was closed for approximately three hours. The investigation is currently ongoing.
