DOVER—Delaware State Police have arrested 25-year-old Da’Jour Deshields of Dover for attempted robbery and offensive touching stemming from an incident on Saturday.

Authorities said troopers responded to the Dollar General at 250 Gateway South Boulevard in Dover for reports of an attempted robbery at 4:08 p.m. A witness informed police that Mr. DeShields entered the store and approached the employee working the cash register. Mr. Deshields then grabbed a shopping bag and pointed a toy gun at the employee, demanding money from the register according to DSP Public Information Officer Sgt. India Sturgis.

Police said the employee refused to comply with Mr. Deshields, who then approached the second Dollar General employee and started a physical altercation. The altercation caused the employee to fall to the ground, causing Mr. Deshields to flee the store, though he hit the other Dollar General employee in the body on his way out. No one was injured during the incident.

Delaware State Police said they were able to identify the suspect and recover the toy gun before apprehending Mr. DeShields, who was then transported to Troop 3 and charged with attempted robbery and offensive touching. Mr. Deshields was then committed to Sussex Correctional Institute on a $3,100 secured bond.
