Moore welcomes Tiafoe

On Jan. 26, Gov. Wes Moore welcomed Maryland native and tennis star Frances Tiafoe and his family to Annapolis. 

“It’s an honor to meet Prince George’s County’s own Frances Tiafoe and congratulate him on all his accomplishments on and off the court,” Gov. Moore said. “His hard work and dedication are an inspiration for all Marylanders. On behalf of our entire administration, we wish him luck as he continues to change the way the world sees the game of tennis, one match at a time.”

Also on Thursday, Tiafoe was presented with a citation from the Maryland Senate and House of Delegates. 

NCHS athletics

On Jan. 14, at the final match of the Tomahawk Duals against Havre de Grace, head wrestling Coach Tim Frey earned his 450th win. Coach Frey has been leading the Bulldogs’ wrestling team since 1986 and is currently in his 37th season. “Congratulations on an incredible accomplishment!” a post from the school said.

CSD Marching Vikings

The Cambridge-South Dorchester High School Marching Viking Drumline will battle Sussex Tech Drumline in Lewes, Delaware, on March 25. The event will take place during the 4th Annual MADC Ballers’ Classic Showcase at Cape Henlopen High School.

Cambridge Little League

The Super Bowl Breakfast Buffet (and last sign up) is back by popular demand. The event will take place Sunday, Feb. 12, from 7-11 a.m. at Cambridge Elks Lodge #1274. Details to follow on breakfast and silent auction.

What to bring:

  • New players: birth certificate
  • New and returning players who do not attend school in a Cambridge Little League district school: three proofs of residency.

Registration fees:

  • T-ball: $40
  • All baseball/softball levels: $75/child, $55 for each additional sibling.

Wicomico County Recreation & Parks officials will hold a public meeting to discuss proposed renovations at the Mason Dixon Sports Complex on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 6 p.m. at Delmar Elementary. The public is welcome to attend.

Herschel Johnson Youth Basketball League

The Herschel Johnson Youth Basketball League, in partnership with the Police Athletic League, needs basketball coaches for the 2023 season. Must be 21 or older, must have some knowledge of basketball and must pass a mandatory background check.
