Speak Up: ‘The real barriers behind shortage of police officers’ letter response

Posted

“Transparency and accountability have nothing to do with Delaware or national policing shortages. The shrinking applicant pools for law enforcement agencies have more to do with institutional biases and the subjective background checks during the hiring process.”

  • Not just minorities are refused. It includes former policemen who have left to try and better themselves, but it doesn’t work out. They try and come back, and they are met with resistance and scrutiny. If they are so short on officers, why do they do that? Someone who still has all the skill and knowledge gets refused time and time again to come back and do the job he was meant to do and is wholeheartedly 100% ready to do. — Donna Lee
