Speak Up: Response to concealed-weapon permits Question of the Day

Posted

Senate Bill 172, a proposal that would allow a person who is at least 21 years old and not prohibited by state or federal law to carry a firearm without a permit, fell short in the Delaware Senate Judiciary Committee meeting Wednesday. Should Delaware keep or eliminate permits for concealed deadly weapons? Why?

  • The requirements in Delaware for a concealed carry permit should be continued. They require training by a certified instructor in the handling of a firearm, ammunition and storage thereof. They also require the publishing of name and address in a local paper, five references from county residents and fingerprints. These requirements will help prevent people who could be a danger to the community from carrying concealed weapons. The idea that anyone not meeting these requirements could carry a concealed weapon is a danger to all Delaware citizens. These requirements should be nationwide. — Richard Schwager
  • Yes! Why is our state any worse for people who are legally able to purchase a firearm at 21 years old but not able to conceal carry without a permit? Maybe firearm safety should be added to the bill, so it seems less scary? Instead of not passing this, how about make adjustments to pass it? My concern for law enforcement and anyone is tinted windows! What about that topic? Can’t see inside a vehicle. How is that safe? I have problems with sun glare, as well. My windows are not tinted. Get a script for sunglasses, instead of hiding behind tinted windows. — Donna Lee
  • Criminals already do it, and they get released to do it again. — Tom Small
  • We need the opposite. Those with open carry should get a permit. Imagine if everyone who carried was trained and permitted, just like driving a car, being a doctor, a dentist or an electrician. — John Smith
