Somerset County to hold overdose awareness event

Posted

WESTOVER – To recognize Recovery Month, the Somerset County Health Department together with the Somerset Emergency Services will host an Overdose Awareness Day event on Aug. 31.

The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and will take place on the Crisfield City Dock. It is free to the public.

Adam Riggin from WCTG will be the evening’s emcee. The event will feature free food, music, guest speakers and local vendors offering resources and materials on substance abuse and recovery services. Attendees will be able to get trained on Narcan.

At dusk, those attending can launch luminated floating lanterns in honor or in memory of a loved one. Everyone is urged to show their support for recovery by wearing purple and face coverings are encouraged.

“We want to show the community that prevention works, treatment is effective, and people can and do recover from substance use and mental health disorders and live a healthy and rewarding life,” said Somerset County Health Department’s Behavioral Health Authority Director Shannon Frey.
