Somerset County Public Schools sets work session on public participation policies

Posted

WESTOVER — The Somerset County Board of Education will hold an open work session 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26 to continue the discussion on amendments to two public participation policies.

The board held a work session in December about Policy 100-10 titled “Request to Address the Board” and Policy 100-12 titled “Public Participation” and at that time asked that they also consider a merged policy that would be numbered 100-12.

Policy 100-12 was amended in September 2020 to add an email address to contact the board but it also eliminated the public’s ability to sign up and speak at a meeting. Currently those addressing the board are following 100-10 which requires eight days notice and talking points and materials submitted in advance.

Drafts of the policies are attached to the agenda on the SCPS website.
