Somerset County NAACP elects Kirkland Hall president

PRINCESS ANNE — In a recent election outgoing President the Rev. Charles Bagley nominated and members elected Dr. Kirkland J. Hall Sr. to serve as the new leader of the Somerset County Branch of the NAACP.

This will be Dr. Hall’s third ascension to the role of president, with Rev. Bagley now second vice president focusing on legal redress and criminal justice.

Other officers elected include First Vice President Magnolia Steward, Secretary Jeane Pittman-Gray, Assistant Secretary Shelley Johnson, Treasurer Helen Sutton and Assistant Treasurer Tina Johnson.

The Executive Council and their subcommittees are Warren Ward, housing; Linda Baines, Freedom Fund; Cresandra Corbin, membership; Valentina Downing, youth; Lucille Hayward-William, public relations; and Princess Anne Commissioner President Lionel Frederick, environment.

The immediate initiative of the Branch is to increase membership, establish programs for school-age children, work with formerly incarcerated citizens, and plan for the Freedom Fund Banquet which will recognize the achievement of outstanding citizens.
