Virtual event shows county still meeting patron needs

PRINCESS ANNE — Somerset County Library staff presented an online program titled “Outreach When You Can’t Go Out” during the Maryland Statewide Circulation Conference held Jan. 26-28.

Jaime Bradshaw and Kayla Leimbach, branch managers of the Crisfield and Princess Anne libraries, along with Ed Goyda, library director, gave the virtual presentation to share the success Somerset County has had in keeping the library a helpful resource in the community while dealing with the challenges of COVID-19.

Library programs highlighted included the popular Books To Go and Crafts To Go; virtual cooking; art and computer classes; virtual story times and book discussions; and online resume and genealogy workshops.

Board of Trustees President Ann Smith noted that “The pandemic brought a new reality for which no one could easily prepare, but Somerset County libraries have met the challenge — indeed the participation for many programs has exceeded the pre-pandemic numbers.”

Somerset County libraries were among the first in the state to reopen to the public and remain that way with safety limitations; but even after it is safe to completely reopen every aspect of the library, many virtual and To Go programs will continue.

On the calendar for June 15 is the Summer Reading Kickoff with Turtle Dance. This year’s theme is Tails and Tales.
