Somerset County Historical Society to hold annual meeting social

PRINCESS ANNE — The annual meeting of the Somerset County Historical Society is 6 p.m. Friday, June 13 at Teackle Mansion and includes food and drink along with special exhibits for $40 per person.

Tickets are available at Somerset Choice Station Antiques, 11731 Somerset Avenue.

Annual memberships expire on June 30 and President Rich Ziolkowski on behalf of the Board of Directors encourages not just renewing but new members to support the Historical Society’s mission and preserve the history of the county.

It’s not just maintenance of the early 19th century home of Littleton D. and Elizabeth Teackle but unexpected expenses such as this past year when a 75-year-old tree was cut down to prevent wooden shingles from rotting and roots from upsetting the brick path to the south hyphen entrance.

“None of us enjoy cutting down an older tree, but in this case it was completely necessary.” “The tree was also rotting from the inside and could have caused significant damage,” Mr. Ziolkowski wrote in his letter to members.
Upcoming later this month is the Time Travelers History Camp for rising fifth and sixth graders. Member financial support as well as volunteer time and talent make this possible.

“We are working earnestly to serve Somerset County and to foster the preservation of our historic resources so everyone can benefit from the area’s remarkable history,” Mr. Ziolkowski stated. “We invite you to join us.”

Members receive a quarterly newsletter, advance invitation to socials and special events, and a 10% discount at Somerset Choice Station Antiques.
Annual memberships are $30 for an individual, $50 for a family/couple and $100 for business/corporate. Donations are tax deductible as well, and can be sent payable to the Somerset County Historical Society, P.O. Box 181, Princess Anne, Md. 21853 or through the website http://www.somersetcountyhistoricalsociety.org.

If you are interested in being a volunteer, a guest speaker, or would like to rent the mansion for a special event, call 410-651-2238.
