Smyrna man arrested in drug investigation

SMYRNA - Jayaire Brittingham, 22, of Smyrna was arrested on Monday in the culmination of a months long drug investigation, police said.

Smyrna police spokesperson Lt. Brian Donner said Mr. Brittingham had allegedly been distributing heroin throughout the Smyrna area. He was taken into custody by Delaware Probation and Parole officers during a probation visit, Lt. Donner said.

Police said detectives then executed a search warrant at Mr. Brittingham’s residence in the 100 block of N Fairfield Dr, Smyrna. Recovered during the search warrant was approximately 125 bags of heroin, three firearms and numerous rounds of ammunition, police said.

One of the firearms was an unfinished “ghost gun” that has no serial number and is untraceable, police said.

Mr. Brittingham was charged with possession of an unfinished firearm with no serial number, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony (two counts), possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited (three counts), possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a child (three counts), and possession of a controlled substance.

Mr. Brittingham was presented before Justice of the Peace Court 2 and then held in custody at Sussex Correctional Institution on a $142,000 cash only bond.

The Drug Enforcement Agency Dover Task Force and Dover police also assisted the investigation.
