SMYRNA — A 34-year-old Lincoln man was arrested on DUI and weapon charges following a vehicle pursuit Tuesday, Delaware State Police said.

According to spokesman Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell, at approximately 9:55 p.m., a trooper was investigating a violation of a court order at a residence on West Glenwood Avenue, when Miguel Fantauzzi-Rivera returned to the home in a black SUV. The trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled, police said.

The suspect fled south on U.S. 13 and turned east onto Big Woods Road, where he lost control of the vehicle and went into a ditch, Cpl. Hatchell said. With assistance from the Smyrna Police Department, Mr. Fantauzzi-Rivera was taken into custody without further incident.

During contact with the suspect, troopers observed signs of impairment, and a DUI investigation ensued. A subsequent search of the SUV led to the discovery of a handgun reported stolen out of Columbia, South Carolina, police said.

Mr. Fantauzzi-Rivera was charged with receiving a stolen firearm, disregarding a police officer’s signal, possession of a firearm while under the influence, driving under the influence of alcohol, breach of release, third-degree criminal trespass and numerous traffic offenses. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, Wilmington, on an $8,106 secured bond.
