Sipple: Let’s be fair with child care credits

Posted

I read an article recently about child care credits that our politicians are contemplating. Vice President Kamala Harris’ idea was to provide a monthly payment instead of a tax refund, even if the parents are not working and pay no income tax. If you’re not working, why do you need child care?

Vice President-elect JD Vance wants to increase the tax credit to $5,000, so more parents can stay home. Why do they need child care?

When Donald Trump was president the first time, he raised the income cap to $400,000! Why are we giving those in such a high income bracket child care credits?

We need to look at some of these programs and keep them where they belong: with the ones who need them and the ones who will do their share in earning them. I’m all for helping people who need it, but there’s too much abuse in the system, and it needs to stop.
